The 30-year-old rapper opens up to the magazine about her rough childhood.
“Every time my parents fought, my mother would have us move and I would have to go to a new school, which meant I’d have to face the task of making new friends. I dreaded it. I had butterflies in my stomach each time: Are people going to like or hate me?… Sometimes there’d be a fight, sometimes not. I let people know I wasn’t going to be pushed around”, Nicki explains to Teen Vogue.

Flamboyant rapper Nicki Minaj undergoes a dramatic make-under on the cover of the April issue of US ELLE magazine.
Rocking wavy blonde hair and clean-to-none makeup, the 30-year-old flaunts some sexy cleavage in a cutout Tom Ford leather jacket on the Thomas Whiteside-shot cover.
The ‘American Idol‘ judge explains to the magazine how it was like to get a make-under.
“When I saw myself with barely any makeup at, it was such a… like, I’m so, so attached to my pink lipstick, it’s hard. I feel that it’s become a part of me. To go in front of the camera, without pink lips or big ol’ crazy lashes — you know, nothing — I felt naked. It was scary! So this photo shoot was a real accomplishment in my eyes”, Nicki tells ELLE.
For her simple editorial, styled by Joe Zee, Nicki wears clothing from Dolce & Gabbana, Salvatore Ferragamo and Jeremy Scott for Adidas.

So that’s why I’m only about to put out my second album and I’m already thinking about this. I had a little conversation with Jay-Z at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show. Dubbed ‘Notorious King’ by coverlines, the 29-year-old rapper dons a crown over her fiery curly hair on the cover, while explaining to the magazine whether it’s hard being a woman in the industry.
“It’s not hard to get your way when it’s your way or the highway. People either follow suit or they’re not around. I don’t really like the sound of that, ’cause that sounds like a temper tantrum. I’m just very black and white when it comes to my business”, Nicki tells Vibe.

Last night (12 February) was music’s big night, with the 54th annual Grammy Awards taking place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. While the show was overshadowed by the shocking and sudden death of R&B diva Whitney Houston, the Grammys still attempted to put on a great show, that included a lovely Whitney Houston tribute by ‘American Idol‘ alum Jennifer Hudson. It was of course British goddess Adele‘s big night, winning all six of her nominations. Other big winners included Kanye West and Foo Fighters, with English producer Paul Epworth and indie folk band Bon Iver getting their moment to shine too.
The stars came out all glammed-up in big numbers on the red carpet, with fan favourite Lady Gaga deciding to skip it all. Check it out below:
BEST-DRESSED: Katy Perry looked stunning in a three-quarter sleeve Elie Saab embellished floral appliqué gown, matching her blue hair.
Carrie Underwood opted for a bridal look in a white longsleeve Gomez-Gracia silver sequined dress.
BEST-DRESSED: Blonde-haired Rihanna looked drop dead sexy in an Armani custom gown, with a plunging neckline and dramatic back. Riri helped design the Michelle Pfeiffer Scarface-inspired dress.
With her hair up in a bun, Country sensation Taylor Swift graduated from her usual strapless gowns, by going for a Zuhair Murad capsleeve gown, with a high-neck.
BEST-DRESSED: Rocking retro curls and popping red lips, Adele showed off her curves in Armani.
Rapper Nicki Minaj had everyone talking, by channeling Little Red Riding Hood in her Versace satin robe.

Fishnet-faced Lady Gaga didn’t disappoint in custom gold and black Versace. Pity we couldn’t see the ensemble in motion.
