All The Fashion At The 2012 Oscars

As award season sadly drew to an end, all roads led to the Kodak Theatre in California for the 84th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday (26 February). Legendary actress Meryl Streep finally broke her 30-year curse on the night, by winning her 3rd Oscar for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in ‘The Iron Lady‘. But it was silent film ‘The Artist‘ which made history by becoming only the first silent film to win ‘Best Picture’, since the ‘Wings’ did so during the awards’ inception 83 years ago. ‘The Artist’ also won Michel Hazanavicius ‘Best Director’ and French heartthrob Jean Dujardin ‘Best Actor.

In true Oscar style, the red carpet did not disappoint, many stars dared to take risks. Head below to checkout if those risks worked in their favour or against:

Meryl Streep Enjoys The Nature With Vogue

Despite her illustrious film career actress Meryl Streep has surprisingly never covered US Vogue. At age 62, Meryl finally lands her first Vogue cover to become the oldest person to ever front the magazine (Checkout the romantic January cover here). Her soft, beautiful and rustic editorial, shot by noted Annie Leibovitz has also just been released. Head below to check it out.

Meryl talks to the magazine about how it was like to portray Margaret Thatcher in her latest Oscar buzzworthy film ‘The Iron Lady‘.

“With any character I play, where she is me is where I meet her. It’s very easy to set people at arm’s length and judge them. Yes, you can judge the policies and the actions and the shortcomings — but to live inside that body is another thing entirely. And it’s humbling on a certain level and infuriating, just like it is to live in your own body. Because you recognize your own failings, and I have no doubt that she recognized hers”, Meryl points out to Vogue.

First look at Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher

Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher, look at that gaze.

Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher, look at that gaze.

She got us to love to hate her as the greatly feared, powerful and demanding magazine editor in the Devil Wears Prada. Years later we danced with joy after seeing her portrayal of Donna in the ABBA musical Mamma Mia. Then her flawless performance in Doubt as strict disciplinarian Sister Aloysius raised the little hair on the tip of our hair. Just when we thought we had seen it all she delivered a painstaking performance as renowned chef Julia Child in Julie & Julia.

But brace yourself, because there is still more to come from incomparable actress Meryl Streep, who will portray Margaret Thatcher in her next picture. The first image of the 61-year-old as Thatcher has just being released and just looking at the uncanny resemblance, Streep better start looking at dresses for next year’s award session because she will without a doubt be picking up plenty of nods.

Streep will play the British’s first female Prime Minister in The Iron Lady, which will focus on the run-up to the Falklands War in 1982. The political biopic started production in late January, and word on the street is that the film will start screening later this year.

Streep once again collaborate with her Mamma Mia director Phyllida Lloyd on the movie. The cast of The Iron Lady also includes Jim Broadbent as Margaret’s husband Denis Thatcher, while Olivia Coleman plays the couple’s daughter Carol. Rounding up the cast is Alexandra Roach and Harry Lloyd as the couple in younger days.

“The prospect of exploring the swathe cut through history by this remarkable woman is a daunting and exciting challenge”, Streep said on her portrayed of the former British Prime Minister. “I am trying to approach the role with as much zeal, fervour and attention to detail as the real Lady Thatcher possesses – I can only hope my stamina will begin to approach her own!”
