There is no doubt after watching Lady Gaga serenade audience members on The Oprah Winfrey Show on Thursday’s episode, that she is one of the greatest entertainers of our time.
Dressed in all black, Gaga surprises Oprah audience members by appearing on a screen monitor, who in turn receive her with loud screams. She then says “Hello Oprah and everyone, this is Lady Gaga…I feel so privileged and honored that I have ever been invited to perform on your show and I only wish that I could have been there today, except sadly I couldn’t find the right pair of shoes to wear (pause) unless of course” then the stage curtain lifts and there appears Gaga wearing a red Sally LaPointe jacket, with a bizarre wide brim saucer hat with antennas covering her entire face and sitting on a gigantic stool with a humongous stiletto shoe piano in front of her.
Subsequently, the avant-garde singer kicks off a beautiful strip down piano rendition of ‘Born This Way’, that allows Gaga’s voice to speak for itself and send shivers down one spine. From there Gaga takes off the hat and reveals a curly mask on her face and what comes after is a very emotion filled performance that is sure to result in misty eyes from many people.
Gaga sings piano-driven “You and I”, her powerful vocals on the song steals the limelight from the over-the-top set-up. As Gaga make love to the piano, the camera for a moment flash to Johnny Deep and Oprah who are seated in the audience and the two appear to be just as mesmerized by Gaga, judging by their facial expressions.
The 25-year-old wrap-up her spectacular performance and is lifted off the rather tall-standing stool by two men for a chat with the Big O, who greets her with the words “You are truly a phenomenon” and even jumps around in excitement at one point. It is here that Gaga explains that the high-heel stiletto shoe piano was inspired by her 19-year-old younger sister, Natalie, who is a fashion student.
