All The Fashion At The 2012 Oscars

As award season sadly drew to an end, all roads led to the Kodak Theatre in California for the 84th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday (26 February). Legendary actress Meryl Streep finally broke her 30-year curse on the night, by winning her 3rd Oscar for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in ‘The Iron Lady‘. But it was silent film ‘The Artist‘ which made history by becoming only the first silent film to win ‘Best Picture’, since the ‘Wings’ did so during the awards’ inception 83 years ago. ‘The Artist’ also won Michel Hazanavicius ‘Best Director’ and French heartthrob Jean Dujardin ‘Best Actor.

In true Oscar style, the red carpet did not disappoint, many stars dared to take risks. Head below to checkout if those risks worked in their favour or against:

‘The Help‘ princess Emma Stone channeled Nicole Kidman in a Giambattista Valli high-neck gown.

BEST-DRESSED: Gwyneth Paltrow looked flawless in a white Tom Ford dress, with a cape.

Glenn Close showed some cleavege in a Zac Posen strapless gown, but kept it age appropriate with a matching jacket.

Jessica Chastain took a huge risk in her black Alexander McQueen corset gown, with gold embroidery, and it worked in her favour.

With her hair up in a bun, ‘American Idol‘ judge Jennifer Lopez flaunted her curves in a Zuhair Murad dress, with all the right cuts in the right places.

Meryl Streep knew way before everyone that she was going to strike gold on the night, thus she opted for a gold Lanvin dress.

BEST-DRESSED: Pixie-haired Michelle Williams gave us the most fashion forward look in her retro-meet-modern burnt orange Louis Vuitton gown, with a peplum skirt.

BEST-DRESSED: ‘Resident Evil‘ actress Milla Jovovich brought all the right elements to the red carpet in her one-shoulder Elie Saab gown — elegance and drama. Love the old Hollywood glamour styling.

WORST-DRESSED: Penelope Cruz got it all wrong in her Armani off-the-shoulder frock. Too matronly.

Rooney Mara graduated from her favourite colour black, but still kept it minimalist in white Givenchy. ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo‘ starlet kept true to her signature styling of chic bangs and bold lips.

WORST-DRESSED: Shailene Woodley‘s white longsleeve Valentino dress aged the 20-year-old immesely.

Rocking her natural her, Viola Davis added a pop of colour on the red carpet in an emerald green Vera Wang corset gown.

BEST-DRESSED: Angelina Jolie showed some sexy leg in a black custom Versace velvet strapless gown. She finished the look off with custom-made Salvatore Ferragamo peep-toe pumps.

Honouring independent films and filmmakers, the 27th annual Independent Spirit Awards were held on Saturday (25 February) in Santa Monica. Critically-acclaimed silent movie ‘The Artist‘ scoped top honours, winning ‘Best Feature Film’, ‘Best Director’ for Michel Hazanavicius and ‘Best Actor’ for Jean Dujardin. Other winners included Michelle Williams and Shailene Woodley.

The purple carpet was star-studded, with many opting to keep it casual and relaxed. Checkout all the fashion below:

The 65th annual British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) — the British equivalent of the Oscars — took place tonight (12 February) at the Royal Opera House in the UK. ‘Beginners‘ actor Christopher Plummer, ‘The Help‘ actress Octavia Spencer as well as silent film ‘The Artist‘ continued on their winning streak this award season, in their respective categories. Jean Dujardin once again upset George Clooney by clinching ‘Best Actor’, with Meryl Streep denying Viola Davis a ‘Best Actress’ win.

All The Fashion At The 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards

The 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were held last night (29 January) at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles. While ‘The Help‘ was the big winner of the night, it was French actor Jean Dujardin who stole the show, snatching ‘Best Actor’ right under Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney‘s nose and for the first time, this award season, creating a competitive Oscar race in the category. Clooney’s good friend Viola Davis took home ‘Best Actress’, and having won under the same category a few week ago at the Critics Choice Awards, the 46-year-old becomes the clear front-runner for the Oscar race in the category. Davis’ biggest threat comes from two of The Weinstein Company’s lovely ladies, Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams, who both won a Golden Globe two weeks ago for ‘Best Actress Drama’ and ‘Best Actress Comedy/Musical’, respectively.

Jean Dujardin Rocks Plaid Suits For GQ

Oscar nominee Jean Dujardin is featured in the February issue of US GQ magazine, dubbed ‘Best Actor’ for the magazine’s unofficial awards.

The 39-year-old debonair French actor shows that silent movies are not the only thing making a cool comeback into the masses, but so are plaid suits, modeling a few looks in front of the lens of Carter Smith.

Jean talks to the magazine about his icon Paul Newman.

“I adore Newman. His elegance was so relaxed — chewing gum, opening his jacket, the tie hanging”, Jean tells GQ.
