As award season sadly drew to an end, all roads led to the Kodak Theatre in California for the 84th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday (26 February). Legendary actress Meryl Streep finally broke her 30-year curse on the night, by winning her 3rd Oscar for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in ‘The Iron Lady‘. But it was silent film ‘The Artist‘ which made history by becoming only the first silent film to win ‘Best Picture’, since the ‘Wings’ did so during the awards’ inception 83 years ago. ‘The Artist’ also won Michel Hazanavicius ‘Best Director’ and French heartthrob Jean Dujardin ‘Best Actor.
In true Oscar style, the red carpet did not disappoint, many stars dared to take risks. Head below to checkout if those risks worked in their favour or against:
Glenn Close showed some cleavege in a Zac Posen strapless gown, but kept it age appropriate with a matching jacket.
Meryl Streep knew way before everyone that she was going to strike gold on the night, thus she opted for a gold Lanvin dress.
BEST-DRESSED: Pixie-haired Michelle Williams gave us the most fashion forward look in her retro-meet-modern burnt orange Louis Vuitton gown, with a peplum skirt.
WORST-DRESSED: Penelope Cruz got it all wrong in her Armani off-the-shoulder frock. Too matronly.
Rocking her natural her, Viola Davis added a pop of colour on the red carpet in an emerald green Vera Wang corset gown.

The 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were held last night (29 January) at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles. While ‘The Help‘ was the big winner of the night, it was French actor Jean Dujardin who stole the show, snatching ‘Best Actor’ right under Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney‘s nose and for the first time, this award season, creating a competitive Oscar race in the category. Clooney’s good friend Viola Davis took home ‘Best Actress’, and having won under the same category a few week ago at the Critics Choice Awards, the 46-year-old becomes the clear front-runner for the Oscar race in the category. Davis’ biggest threat comes from two of The Weinstein Company’s lovely ladies, Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams, who both won a Golden Globe two weeks ago for ‘Best Actress Drama’ and ‘Best Actress Comedy/Musical’, respectively.
Head below for all the red carpet action, where no one really stunned. They all played it safe.
BEST-DRESSED: Viola Davis showed off her gorgeous skin in this Marchesa strapless gown, with embroidered antique gold detail.
BEST-DRESSED: ‘My Week With Marilyn‘ beauty Michelle Williams matched the red carpet in a Valentino asymmetrical gown, with a gathered waist and lace detail.
With her blonde locks gathered into an updo, Amber Heard looked elegant in a black cut-out Zac Posen gown.
BEST-DRESSED: Rocking a chic pageboy bob, ‘Bridesmaids‘ star Rose Byrne was the only one really bold on the red carpet in this Elie Saab embroidered jumpsuit.

Three-time Oscar nominee Brad Pitt graces the cover of the latest issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.
The ‘Moneyball‘ actor’s gorgeous face adorns the Frank W. Ockenfels III-shot cover, with his long locks pulled back and sporting a neatly trimmed salt-and-pepper beard.
Brad opens up to the magazine about whether he is ready to make his seven-year relationship with actress Angelina Jolie official.
“We’d actually like to [get married] and it seems to mean more and more to our kids. We made this declaration some time ago that we weren’t going to do it till everyone [the gay community] can. But I don’t think we’ll be able to hold out. It means so much to my kids, and they ask a lot. And it means something to me, too, to make that kind of commitment”, the 48-year-old shares with THR.

The crème de la crème of Tinseltown came out in huge numbers last night (15 January), in celebration of the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California. The Oscar race for ‘Best Actress’ got interesting and more intense on the night, with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) awarding Michelle Williams ‘Best Actress Musical/Comedy’ and Meryl Streep ‘Best Actress Drama’. The two lovely ladies were of course bested by ‘The Help‘ star Viola Davis at the Critics Choice Awards a few days ago. However, if there is one thing the HFPA and Broadcast Film Critics Association agree on is that George Clooney, Octavia Spencer and ‘The Artist‘ should win ‘Best Actor’, ‘Best Supporting Actress’ and ‘Best Picture’ respectively.
Now to the more exciting stuff. Checkout who wore what at the event:
Jessica Chastain kept it simple and elegant in white Givenchy. She could have been best-dressed with a different and more flattering hairdo.
WORST-DRESSED: Queen of pop Madonna failed to impress in this frumpy dark green embroidered Reem Acra gown.
With her granny-esque hair in a classy bun, Kelly Osbourne looked ravishing in a blue Zac Posen gown
BEST-DRESSED: Golden Globe winner Michelle Williams looked effortlessly chic in a velvet longsleeve Jason Wu dress, complete with an adorable headband.
WORST-DRESSED: Sarah Michelle Gellar looked ready to walk down the aisle in this Monique Lhuillier paint-splatter ball gown.
‘Glee‘ starlet Lea Michele‘s love affair with Marchesa continued, this time opting for an antique embroidered illusion dress.

Actor Matt Damon is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Parade magazine.
Dubbed ‘the sexiest family man alive’ by the Sunday newspaper magazine, the 41-year-old heartthrob has his arms folded as he poses for the lens of Sam Jones.
The ‘We Bought A Zoo‘ star explains to the magazine why the paparazzi often hounds close friend Brad Pitt and girlfriend Angelina Jolie, as opposed to him.
“(With) Brad and Angie, there’s much more pressure on them than there is on me. He asked me what my everyday is like. I said, ‘Well, I grab the kids from school, and then we go over to the park’. And he was just looking at me, like, ‘How can you do that?’ Because he can’t”, Brad points out to Parade.
