Remember last week I brought you a sneak peek of the May issue of Elle magazine (America) with Swedish singer Robyn on the cover. Well turns out that’s the subscriber’s cover. The lady that managed to secure Elle’s Newsstands cover is “No Doubt” rocker Gwen Stefani.
The May edition of Elle honours “Ladies in Music”, including veterans such as Stevie Nicks and Aretha Franklin as well as soulful divas such as Adele and Jennifer Hudson. India pop singers Feist and Florence Welch, Country songstress Hillary Scott as well as newcomers Nicki Minaj and Willow Smith also makes the issue.
41-year old Stefani looks gorgeous on the cover with her signature blonde hair and in a stretch wool dress with leather trim by Givenchy on the cover.
Of all the “Ladies in Music” featured in the issue, rapper Nicki Minaj strikes the sexiest pose of them all. A sultry looking Nicki dons a knit minidress by Mark Fast. Nicki says the following on being a female rapper in the magazine: “I always wanted to play with the boys. I didn’t want to be a pawn in their game or have a sidekick role. I wanted to be more of a lead character – a superhero”
British songstress Adele looks sexy and sensual in the magazine. The 22-year-old wears a Burberry dress with jewelry by Eddie Borgo. The singer/songwriter talks about the love songs written about her ex in the magazine: “We’re not on great enough terms for me to say, ‘Oh, have you heard my record? It’s number one; did you know?”
R&B diva Jennifer Hudson is seductively beautiful in the issue. The singer dons a Diane von Furstenberg beaded silk dress. The Oscar winner tells the magazine of performing in gay clubs when she was younger: “In high school I was like, ‘Well, these are drag queens lip-synching, and I can really sing; why can’t I go up there?’ I would win all the talent shows”
Florence Welch looks stunning in a Silk bodysuit and monogram skirt by Louis Vuitton. She also wears a Silk-trim cotton crepe bra and panty from Araks. The India Pop singer tells Elle the following on performing at the 2010 MTV Music Video Awards: “It was my intro to America. And they could have sent me packing if it hadn’t gone so well”
“Whip My Hair” singer Willow Smith is the youngest to be featured in the “Ladies in Music” issue. The 10-year-old looks chic in this specially custom-made ensemble. Willow tease in the magazine about her forthcoming full length album: “It’s going to be a party beat. I think you’re gonna like it!”
Swedish singer Robyn covers Elle magazine’s subscriber’s issue with her blonde pixie cut. The singer wears a baroque-motif Prada dress. Robyn explains the creative process of her latest album, ‘Body Talk’ in the magazine: “At first it was a way of having more fun. Then it started to influence how I communicated with my fans – how to bring new music into a live set throughout the whole year”
When Fashion designers Gwen Stefani is asked by Elle on whether Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Katy Perry have taken a page out of her playbook when it comes to style, she replies: “Really? I don’t see myself in those girls. I usually put pants on. I see these girls as more going for the sex-symbol thing. I was more, in the band, like a tomboy. Of course, I think every girl is sexy, so there’s going to be a little of that But I see a lot of younger artists going more toward the sexy thing”
The L.A.M.B designer further opens up about her marriage to Gavin Rosdale: “The first time we ever kissed was right around Valentine’s Day. We were in New Orleans on tour. So, yeah, I always think about that because it’s unbelievable that we’ve been able to stay together. I feel so proud of us. It’s one of my biggest achievements”
Veteran rocker Stevie Nicks is also featured in the May issue. Stevie tells the magazine the following on her music: “What I always wanted was to affect people. Especially women in rock n roll and what they could write about. We are a force of nature”
Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum dons a Chanel lambskin jacket with a cotton T-shirt by Armani and Studded leather boots from Azzedine Alaïa in the May issue. The Country singer says the following in the magazine about Lady Antebellum’s songs: “There aren’t a ton of people in this country who will understand songs about riding a tractor through a pasture. But when it comes to falling in love and out of love and getting your heart broken, there’s no way you can’t understand what the song’s about.
Legendary R&B diva Aretha Franklin talks about her wardrobe options for her tour in the magazine: “I am going to rock this [size] 16. Sixteen probably sounds large to girls who wear 10s and 12s, but I love it, because it looks good on me”
Canadian singer Feist also makes the cut for the Issue. The 35-year-old singer looks elegant in a Stella McCartney viscose jacket And a chiffon blouse by Jill Stuart. Feist tells Elle this on wanting to take a break after the success of her song ‘1234’: “I was ready to take 10, 20 years off”
